[KaixeRho-mSubs] Blue Comet SPT Layzner – Disc 1

March 4, 2020

Aka episodes 1 to 6, but this time with shiny blu-ray source. Also went and gave the script a thorough fixing with the aid of some lovely captions because it kinda needed it.
Done with the aid of the fine guy KaixeRho, whose blog can be found here.

More episodes when done, so could be a while

SPT Layzner 1-38 batch (featuring ACR)

SPT Layzner

Well, we got there in the end…after 5 years. The ending’s noticeably rushed, but that was beyond the staff’s control, a major sponsor pulled out. If you want to see how the 1999 arc was supposed to go, I recommend the OVAs.

For those of you who haven’t heard of this series, Blue Comet SPT Layzner is a tale of the Cold War interrupted by an invasion of aliens very similar to humans, but more advanced technologically. It’s from the director Ryousuke Takahashi, who is most famous for the Votoms series.

In the batches below are both the ACR episodes (using the Lupin Gang scripts) 1-8, as well as the /m/subs episodes 9-38.

Sunset couple

I originally wanted to have the whole series out for our 5th anniversary which I thought was today….then I got dates muddled up and stuff happened behind the scenes, so this is only a triple bill that’s 2 days late. So close enough.
And yes it’s been 5 years, the first posts on the /m/subs forum are from 27 January 2009.

And before anyone in the comments gets overexcited, Layzner has 38 episodes.

Anyways, this three parter is definitly the point where the rug gets pulled out from under the show, because the plot gets jumpy. First up we have an episode that goes all Indiana Jones and revisits the Cuzco subplot…it’s a weird episode. Second, we have what would normally be the beginning of a leadin to the hero’s mecha getting an upgrade due to actions of the villains. Thirdly we get Le Caine/Ru Kain suddenly becoming a shounen manga protagonist and the appearance of every Super Robot Wars J player’s ‘favourite’ boss to deal with.

Layzner 33 & 34

Fire solves all problems

I was hoping to have these out for Christmas but stuff happened further down the chain of people. So enjoy these 2 episodes with the Terminator crew, and Gosterro proves he has some cockroaches in the family tree.

35 and 36 should be soonish, then there’ll be a slight gap until 37, 38 and the black sheep ep 25.

Lola, L-O-L-A, Lola

Here’s another episode of Layzner for your viewing pleasure, starring everyone’s favourite cyborg rapist.

And I want a coke…and have the song Lola stuck in my head.

It't true though

This episode had a lot of behind the scenes issues and things going wrong with it. From the file randomly becoming completely unreadable due to deciding it was Japanese mid-line, through the translator being missing for 6 months, to being infested with timing gremlins that desynched lines when QC looked the other way. Thankfully notepad hijinks and determined QC solved 2 of those issues, and UK Windom volunteered as primary translator to help out. UK Windom has a long history with the Layzner project, as he was the timer on the first few episodes, which kinda says how long ago that was.
And wordpress ate my original post. Fun. Anything else gone wrong, complain in the comments.

Anyways, enough ranting, enjoy the giant robot bread and circuses.

Drag queen army

Well here we have episode 30 of Layzner, with spy shenanigans, men being /m/en and totally obvious traps.

Also here’s a little extra, courtesy of Uznare from IRC and his mysterious benefactor. It’s a one-off so don’t expect more.

That wine is nowhere near the right colour.

That wine is nowhere near the right colour.

Here we have an episode that’s light on the mecha action and high on old-school quality. Though it is plot relevant, and manages to make an utter git of a character be even worse.

DDL is on the new mega because packupload’s been acting up. If you’re not on Chrome and it won’t let you download, try using JDownloader.

Also got hold of some DVD ISOs of the first half of the series (waiting on 2nd half to be uploaded). May have some rereleases of earlier eps made with slightly better raws. Though that’ll most likely be in a batch of some sort.

Layzner sparkles

Here’s a little slightly early Christmas present for you all, a new episode of Hokuto no Layzner…I mean SPT Layzner.
I suppose you could say this was Christmassy in that it involves a maiden given a mission by God, but with no awkward explanations to the fiancé.
Anyways, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays etc.

Layzner 26-27

August 25, 2012

Before anyone asks/bitches about episode 25 (and I know someone will), 25 is a recap ep of the first arc. It is not very good. It will be done before the end of the series, but the in the fight between being a completionist and actually being motivated, motivation won; so if you really want a 1996 arc recap, watch the first OVA.

Anyways, these 2 eps are the first 2 of the 1999 arc, as you can guess there’s a timeskip. And knowing the tone of this show you can probably guess what happened in the interim. Also it starts cribbing from Fist of the North Star, and even more dystopias.
